Non-woven shopping bags (also known as non-woven eco-friendly bags) are non-woven fabric products made primarily from polypropylene (PP) and other chemical fibers. The fibers are arranged in a directional or random pattern to form a web structure, which is then mechanically or thermally bonded for reinforcement. They are breathable, flexible, moisture-proof, foldable, and easy to carry. Custom sizes and thicknesses are available, along with advertising printing. Based on usage, they can be categorized into more than ten types, including shopping bags, insulated bags, and medical protective equipment bags. The production process includes fabric selection, cutting, printing, and sewing. Thicknesses range from 25g to 250g/m².
Because their natural degradation time is shorter than that of plastic bags, this product is being promoted under plastic restriction policies and is widely used in retail packaging, advertising, and healthcare. According to industry reports, the Chinese non-woven bag market is projected to reach 8.8 billion yuan by 2025, with PP accounting for 76%, and retail usage reaching 24 billion bags. However, research indicates that at least 11 reuses are needed to offset energy consumption and carbon emissions, meaning approximately 23.4% are actually discarded directly.
Currently, the industry faces problems such as a lack of standards (enforcing textile industry standards) and inconsistent product quality (the mainstream thickness of products on the market is 30-80g/m²). Hainan Province has issued regulations prohibiting the use of non-woven bags weighing less than 100g/m². Merchants often achieve advertising benefits through custom printing, but there are instances of false advertising regarding "biodegradability." The reusable and washable characteristics of non-woven bags give them both practical and environmental value. Merchants can satisfy shopping needs and achieve advertising through exquisite designs, thus making non-woven bags increasingly popular in the market.
